Flatonia, Texas is located in Fayette County on Interstate Highway 10, U.S. Highway 90 & the mainline of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Flatonia was established by combining two settlements, Flatonia and Oso, which moved to the railroad tracks that came through the area in 1874. The new town kept the name Flatonia, which established a post office in 1870 and quickly incorporated in 1875. By 1878 there were already over 800 residents who primarily raised cattle and grew cotton.
