Welcome to D'Hanis, Texas
Henri Castro's Third Settlement.
D'Hanis, Texas is located in Medina County on Parkers Creek at the intersection of U.S. Highway 90, FM 1796 and 2200. In 1847, 29 Alsatian families arrived to settle D'Hanis, where each family received a 20-acre farm and a town lot. As the town grew, residents built lasting European-style rock homes, and a post office opened up. However, when the railroad came to the area in 1881, the tracks were one mile west of town, and everyone moved in that direction.

St Dominic Catholic Church
St Dominic Catholic Church was abandoned entirely in 1914 when the congregation moved, with the town, a mile to the west. St Dominic was built in 1853 and then expanded in 1869 to anticipate the arrival of its first resident pastor.
However, when the railroad came to the area in 1881, the tracks were one mile west of town, and everyone moved in that direction. The arrival of the railroad left St Dominic disconnected and out of the way. In 1912 a fire burned St Dominic, and the congregation decided to build The Holy Cross Church, a new church closer to the railroad, instead of rebuilding St Dominic.
