Abbott, Texas is located in Hill County half a mile east of Interstate Highway 35. The town was founded when the MKT Railroad arrived in 1871 and was named for Joseph Abbott. A post office was established in 1882 but it closed in 1928. The United Methodist Church was organized in 1883 and built its current building in 1899. In 2006, Abbott native Willie Nelson saved the United Methodist Church from certain destruction by buying it when it went up for sale.
